Bleeding gums are the main sign of gum inflammation.

 

•  Treating gum inflammation:

Gums can become inflamed for a number of reasons. The main causes include:

– physical injury,

– an overhanging or poorly fitting edge of a filling or crown,

– periodontal disease.

In the first case, the gums may heal on their own, but treatment at the practice can speed up the process.

In the second case, the fillings or crowns need to be adjusted or replaced.

The third case is more serious: treating the gums forms part of the overall treatment for periodontal disease.
